Peace and War

Winter in the Fourth Year of the Ascension Wars

War with Vanheim is not needed.
money

Hinnom also would rather placate us than risk war.

session

Our power is marked by another nation as well.

long-request

Ogon, who is disheartened by the relative peace in the north that Moss Agate and Obsidian Eye have now secured, needs little encouragement. Lapis has been largely absent from council proceedings of late, but she appears at this one. Her magical research has been proceeding beautifully, and the invocation of the Maws of the Earth remains a great achievement on her part. What is more, boots of earth have been achieved under her direction, and Black Opal has forged a magical Staff of the Elements. Between these items, it is not only possibly but simple to gain great strength, yet Lapis lusts for still more and would gladly take the prize offered. Indeed, it would strengthen our nation greatly. Deepthought sees little to gain in this war, but he is the only dissenter currently in the capital, for the generally more peaceful Moss Agate is away on diplomacy, and Obsidian Eye holds a great respect for the blessed of Rhuax, and would give them aid on that merit alone.

rhuax-pact

Obsidian Eye has gone to the Subterranean Fire and the oracles there have communed with Rhuax. He has lent us his own troops to aid in the coming war.

The following message arrived on portable stone tablets ferried from the north.

Black Opal, praise be upon her, has undone the seal guarding the throne of elements.

throne-of-the-elements

She stands ready to seize it. Better yet! Ontog, kin to Ogon, he who hears the voice of the Conqueror of Death, leads the greatest army that Agartha has ever seen and stands poised to seize another throne in the North.

advance

Black Opal’s ascension to the estate of the Pantokrator will surely come.

Thus writes Stonetongue, Official Historical Engraver to Black Opal, Oracle of the Unseen Skies, Conqueror of Death, She Who Will Be Pantokrator.

OOC Note

The proposal to treat Yomi in a gentlemanly fashion was largely ignored. Minding it resulted in me losing clay to Vanheim who, it seems, is neither a gentleman nor does he aspire to be one.

Early Spring in the Fifth Year of the Ascension Wars

Our friends, those loved by Rhuax, have made good on their deal.
great-deals

They have also given us something not bargained for: Information.

diplo-tip

There is no need to be anything but honest.

Another tablet comes from the north

Black Opal sits upon the throne of Elements, and her speaker, Ontog kin to Ogon, assaults the fortress constructed by the Oni to defend one of their thrones. Ontog’s army is large, and bolstered by the oracles who were previously tasked with clearing the undead from the caves of gold and from the throne of the elements. Finfag the Shadow Seer is also here for some reason. Nobody really knows what his deal is.

ontogs-men

The armies of Yomi are small but elite. There are relatively few oni, but two of the dai oni, and there are tengu and many human mages.

mages

As the mages go about their magery, the tengu rush into the fray. Their numbers are no match for the mind blasts of the olms.
all-thats-left-of-them
They are quickly annihilated. The mages use the time that was bought for them mostly to stock the fort with a great many undead. Ontog calls on Black Opal’s divine influence to properly assert mortality on these beings, and the oracles open up the maws of the earth, putting the masterpiece of Lapis’ research corps to good use, but the dead are summoned in numbers greater than can be matched.

skellingtons

While this continues, the olms levy their arts against the enemy mages, but they do so while under fire, and the pale ones soon tire of being targeted and leave. Their timing is poor, for an earth elemental pursues.

we-out

On his heels ride the undead, and a fierce melee ensues. Pale ones (for not all fled) and olms against an elemental and the undead. The elemental is quickly overwhelmed, but the tied of the dead is endless. Even so, the gate is breached.

breached

The losses however, become so gruesome that even the mages, themselves in no particular danger, elect to fall back. Eventually, only the olms fight on. Realizing that they lack support, they too turn and flee.

bravery-indeed

The army has fallen back, allowing the besieged demons to reinforce. However, their losses are far too great to reinforce to nearly the same level. What mages remain will quickly be wiped out by the mind blasts of olms in a new assault. Thus the siege is reestablished, and this set back will soon be rectified.

Thus writes Stonetongue, Official Historical Engraver to Black Opal, Oracle of the Unseen Skies, Conqueror of Death, She Who Will Be Pantokrator.

Late Spring in the fifth year of the Ascension Wars

It seems that the cowardly whispers of the vanir found a listening ear after all.

in-the-back

Had we known this would happen, no doubt the support for the cause of Abysia would have seen less support. As it is, the invading armies, who have already crossed the border and thus angered Therodos, are called back.
The enemy army draws near already to Agartha. They also used magic to send a small squad behind enemy lines. Besides the invading army, Black Opal is also returning to the capital with intent to defend it.

The army behind enemy lines is not strong.
blade-windA small army will be able to deal with this, especially when backed by a mage blowing the wind of blades. The other army is a full-on force, one which will take a great magical opposition to best.
army It seems the mages have been commanded to first boost their own might by summoning the powers of earth and storm, and thereafter to strengthen the armor of their own troops and use evocation against mine.

As the armies return from their foray to meet our new and more deadly enemies, Moss Agate has a clever idea for a diplomatic endeavor.

missive

Thus writes Halfface, Official Historical Engraver to the Closed Council and First Underlackey to Chiselword, He Who Takes The Minutes.

The Battle for the Caverns

The enemy forces, the armies of Ur, they have reached the caverns of our capital. We foray forth to meet them.
epic

Our mages are undaunted and set forth their magics. Black Opal uses her master of the airs to grant all of our troops the gift of flying, while another oracle gives them skin of marble. Black Opal employs greater magic still and turns our army into whisps of fog which still strike with the strength of flesh and steel. The enemy is outmatched as our front line of children of Rhuax and living mercury meet the inferior enemy.

front-lines

The enemy troops are ill able to do aught but die, however the actions of enemy mages still cause casualties as our troops advance through the slaughter. Our own mages, of course, also cause casualties on the enemy side. In fact, some of those care caused by the enemy mages as well, for they cannot see very well in the darkness of the caves, and their thunderbolts often fly awry.

wading

The front lines of the enemy have already been sundered by the time Black Opal recovers from the fatigue of calling sky magic into Agartha, and breaks the power of Death over our troops.

break-on-through

With the front lines down, the rearguard has nothing to shelter them from the wind of blades, and soon flee.

big-battle-win

Although we did little damage to their mage corps, we did kill many of the Enkidu, including their “chosen”, which they hold sacred. It is a victory in truth. Now there is only the rest of the empire to see to.

Thus writes Halfface, Official Historical Engraver to the Closed Council and First Underlackey to Chiselword, He Who Takes The Minutes.

The End of the Fifth Year

losing-ground-fast

We now have enemies on all sides. Of our neighbors, only Abysia is not opposed to us. Though a great battle was one in Agartha, it will take more to defeat all of these surface creatures. The north has already fallen to the craven vanir and the backstabbing Avvim. The heartland is occupied by Enkidu. Our armies are few, and pressured in their castles.

This great army from the land of the Avvim marches upon us:
penis In the back is Basas’el, son of the Semyaza. He is well equipped.
